Making Space for Something To Happen

Desperately waiting for something to happen!!!!

All of a sudden I've noticed that my studio is in need of a bit of tender loving care. I didn't realise just how messy it's become; I expect so much from it, it's time I gave it some love.

My studio is one of 17 in an artist co-operative, Cambridge Artworks . The other day I walked past one of my artistic colleagues doing some serious decluttering in her studio. It looked fab, and made her studio look huge. A big smile on her face she announced she'd been making space for something to happen. She totally inspired me, tripping into my studio today I realise that a good spring clean is in order......

Making space for something to happen? I hope so

Back from wonderous St Ives in Cornwall

I've had the most incredible time in St Ives, everytime I go there I come back artistically supercharged and find my creative sensibility forever changed.

Went down for a two day course with Naomi Frear at the St Ives School of Painting. Its a great venue and Naomi's course was focused, professional and totally inspirational - big thanks go to her.

I stayed the rest of the week on my own. Some people find that strange, maybe it is, but I love the sea and spent most evenings on the beach watching the sunset . Personally I value time on my own and find it invaluable for clearing out my head.

Since leaving the Royal Academy last year I've been unsettled with my painting style. I now have more time to paint and play and wanted to be looser and freer in my work but instead found myself buying smaller brushes and getting tighter.  This course opened the door I've been tapping at, and its great to feel my love of painting flood back.

Each morning I'm up and out and off to the studio, working on new work in a new way - putting paint on, rubbing it off, putting it on, scraping it back.....

Light improves my creativity

Amazing, as soon as the days get longer my creativity comes out of hibination. I feel like working again, I feel like getting out of bed and strolling purposefully to the studio. Phew, been waiting a while to feel like that again.

Been working on small acrylic paintings, and suddenly really wanted to do some printmaking. Have stared with a little perspex drypoint of Stag Starlight. Trick here is to draw it on the reverse of the plate then when you drypoint image on front of plate, it will be the right way round when it's printed (got to admit that this tip was from the Royal Academy's Print technician, Simon, a true magician)
So be interested to hear any tips on drypoint transfer that anyone else has
